Bite This!

Writer: Jeff DavisJeff Davis

A friend of mine told me about a place a while back that really piqued my little foodie curiosity. A place with bagel bombs the size of softballs. A place with delectable goodies. A place unlike any other bakery I've heard of.

I have two words for you:

GOTH BAKERY.

Do I have your attention? I thought so.

Let me give you a little background on this place. Bite This by Annie was created in 2022 by Annie Dickson. Annie was self taught, and by my experience at her bakery, is a culinary mastermind. Her shop has a rotating menu, with certain staples like her brownie and bagel bombs. Bite This by Annie also has some of her baked goods sold at various shops around Columbus including The Hungarian Butcher, Littleton's Market, and Florin Coffee.

So let me tell you a little about my trip. Me and one of my fellow Columbus Foodies partners in crime Joel, headed over there on Sunday morning. The bakery, located at 3009 North High Street, was easy to pick out with the 15 foot skeleton standing out front in the middle of January.

I love those giant skeletons!
I love those giant skeletons!

We walk in to a straight goth vibe, legit goth vibe, not Hot Topics in the mall kind of vibe. But don't let that hinder you from visiting this place if that's not your thing. You'd really be missing out on something good. Everyone working there seemed really nice and helpful. . One thing to note about this place, it's a carry-out, so there's no seating inside.

As for their selection, there were all sorts of delicious looking cookies, brownies, cakes, and snack mixes to choose from in the display case. They had several different bagel bombs, and a few biscuit bombs to choose from. My brain was short circuiting a bit over the selection. Guess that's what I get for skipping breakfast.

Joel and I both finalized on the biscuit and gravy biscuit bombs and the notorious brownies that I heard so much about. We each got our food, paid, and headed to the car for the taste test.

As we opened our little black bags that contained our biscuit bombs, we were both surprised that the appearance lived up to the hype. Here in our hands were these softball sized, crispy, toasted cheese covered treasures. Then I took a bite. Oh man, I was speechless. It was like they took the best, flaky, buttery biscuit ever and wrapped it around the gooiest, cheesy, eggy biscuits and gravy. We basically took a bite , looked at each other slack jawed, and then proceeded to destroy our meals.

This thing was huge!
This thing was huge!

And so good!
And so good!

Joel actually loved it so much that he literally walked back in and told them how much he loved it. Kind of dorky, but hey, respect. After finishing my biscuit bomb, I was able to make enough room to try a few bites of my brownie. To my astonishment, it was pretty phenomenal itself. It was a brownie, but also super fudgy, chocolatey, a little buttery, and the pinch of sea salt added

another layer of flavor. To beat all, it pretty much melted in my mouth. These aren't your every day brownies.

Wow. Just wow.

So did Bite This by Annie live up to the hype? Oh yeah, it surpassed what I hoped for. As for Joel? I think it kind of broke him in a good sort of way.

Check it out today.
