Kingy's Pizza Pub - More Than Just Great Pizza?

Kingy’s Pizza Pub has been serving the Canal Winchester and Pickerington community for over 40 years, and I’ve had more than one pizza from there over the years. I've always had good pizza from them, but this post isn’t about the pizza. This is about something else.
I knew that they’ve received several awards over the years, obviously for their pizza and
ribs, but also a sandwich? Wait, what? I needed to know what the deal was there. We contacted Kingy’s about trying out this mystery sandwich, and Joel and I decided to check it out.
We arrived about 3:45 and there were already regulars lined up to get a seat when they opened at 4 pm. If you've never been to Kingy's, it's basically got that sports bar vibe. There's several televisions, a full bar, and plenty of sports memorabilia.

Once inside, we were told that they had several items that we should try as well as the sandwich. So, in the name of research, we held true to our catch phrase and said, “Well what are you waiting for? It’s time to eat!”
Joel and I took a booth, and a server came over and took our drink order and gave us our complimentary bowl of freshly buttered popcorn. Everyone gets a bowl of popcorn when they come in, which in itself, is a nice little treat. Our contact greeted us and gave us the rundown of special items to try. Let the foodie fest begin!

They started with a half slab of their award-winning ribs. I have had their ribs a few times before and knew that I was in for a treat. These things were super tender (not fall apart) and juicy. The sauce that they use compliments the ribs perfectly. If they are setting the bar by starting with the ribs, then I’m really curious about what is coming next.

Next on the list was the Reu-bert. This thing was a jaw dropper! It was their twist on a
Reuben sandwich, and the award-winning sandwich that I was in search of. The Reu-bert had corned beef and pastrami piled between three pieces of toasted marbled rye bread. If that wasn’t enough, it also had Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, spicy thousand island dressing, and a roasted red pepper relish. They then add a side of potato chips to keep that deli sandwich feel. The sandwich weighs over a pound! This thing would easily compete (and win) against a lot of delis. We were told that there were more items coming but the sandwich was so delicious that Joel destroyed his half of regardless. Somehow, I managed to maintain a little self-control and only ate a quarter of the sandwich. Believe me, that’s saying a lot if you've seen me eat.

As we finished up trying out the Reu-bert, a sub came out to us. This was the Italian Baller. It was their other award-winning sandwich. I was like, “hold up, this pizza place has two award-winning sandwiches?” Yes, true believers, there is another. The Baller had Italian meatballs, salami, capicola, pepperoni, ham, and provolone topped with lettuce, tomato, onions, hot peppers, and Italian dressing. They brought out a side of marinara for the sub also. I’m a huge Italian sub fan, so it really hit the mark with me. I love me a good, toasted sub!
So, there you have it. This forty-four-year-old pizza pub not only has great pizza and ribs, but they also have great sandwiches.
But wait, there’s more!

Here’s where things get even crazier. They bring out some wings for us to try. First up was their honey bbq wings. Kingy’s switches things up a bit and actually grills the wings. I knew there was something different about them as soon as they set them on the table. I tell you what, one bite and you’d wonder why everyone doesn’t grill their wings. These things were crispy meat candy. We were both floored when we tried them! Honestly, these were the best wings that I’ve had in a while.
But it’s not over yet.
They decided to surprise us with two other flavors that are coming out. There was a spicy honey and a sweet and tangy Hawaiian flavor. Same large, crispy wings, two new flavors.

Joel and I were split on them. I was a fan of the spicy honey, while Joel preferred the
Hawaiian.
This was a very eventful foodie adventure for Joel and I. We not only found one delicious award-winning sandwich, but we also found a second one. Add to that, we’ve found a new place to get some awesome wings! This is definitely going to complicate ordering food on my next trip to Kingy’s Pizza Pub.
